Herbert Has Motivation

Justin Herbert had an outstanding 2020 season that culminated in the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback being voted the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

However, Herbert’s worst game of his rookie year came in the blowout loss to the Patriots. He completed just 26 of 53 passes for 209 yards and no touchdowns while being intercepted twice.

That marked the only time in Herbert’s 21 career starts that he has failed to throw a TD pass or complete 50% of his passes. His quarterback rating of 43.7 was by far the worst of his fledgling career.

The Patriots pass defense ranks 16th in the NFL, putting it right in the middle of the pack among the league’s 32 teams. New England is giving up 245.0 yards a game while Herbert is averaging 295.2.

Herbert is also coming off his worst game of 2021 in which he was limited to 195 yards in a 38-6 loss to the Ravens in Baltimore two weeks ago.

Thus, Herbert should certainly be motivated for a bounce-back.

  • The Pick: Justin Herbert Over 288.5 passing yards (-114); 1 units

Harris Heating Up

After rushing for 100 yards in Week 1, Patriots running back Damien Harris ran for a combined 130 yards in the next four games.

However, Harris is heating up, rushing for 100-plus yard in each of the Patriots’ last two games. He also has scored four touchdowns over the last three games.

Harris is looking to become the first Patriots player to rush for 100 yards in three straight games since Corey Dillon in 2004.

Considering the Chargers are allowing an NFL-worst 162.5 yards a game on the ground, look for Harris to have some chunk plays in the running game – and at least one touchdown.

  • The Pick: Damien Harris anytime TD (+110); 1 unit
