Manchester City will continue their attempt to dominate England’s domestic cup competitions when they meet Arsenal in the FA Cup semifinal at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s City team have already lifted the EFL Carabao Cup this season and are the holders of the FA Cup after a record-equalling 6-0 defeat of Watford in 2019 final.

Arsenal won the FA Cup in 2014, 2015 and 2017. They are in eighth place in the Premier League and are in contention to qualify for next season’s Europa League. However, a triumph in the FA Cup would guarantee a spot in the secondary European competition.

City’s mood suggests they are likely winners even though they have been without star striker Sergio Aguero for the past six games. But there is more value in taking a chance on Arsenal at +700.

There was a 3-0 win for City at home against Arsenal on the first day of the EPL’s re-start in June and they have been in largely impressive form since – with a 4-0 defeat of this season’s champions Liverpool the stand-out result on July 2.

Three Five-Goal Wins for City

They have also scored 5-0 defeats of Burnley, Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion.

The surprise was a 1-0 defeat at Southampton on July 5 and they were also beaten 2-1 at Chelsea on June 25.

In total, they have won six times and been defeated twice since the resumption of play in a season in which they have mounted an unimpressive defense of the league title they won last season.

They are set to finish second, well behind Liverpool. With a 12-point lead over third-placed Chelsea, the runners-up place is already secured.

Gunners’ manager Mikel Arteta was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at City until he took charge at Arsenal last December.

The most recent result was a 2-1 win at home against Bournemouth last Tuesday.

Arsenal’s re-start was troubled with a  2-1 defeat at Brighton following the setback at Manchester City.

Things then picked up with three straight wins against Southampton, Norwich and Wolves.

Boost for Arsenal Against Liverpool

However, Mikel Arteta’s team bounced back with a 2-1 home win against Liverpool last Wednesday.

City’s domination of England’s domestic cups includes three straight EFL Cup wins and Guardiola will be keen to retain the FA Cup as some consolation for the poor defense of the title during which his team has suffered nine league defeats.

They are also in the Champions League where they will meet Real Madrid in a last 16-second leg tie.

In this season’s FA Cup, City have scored 11 times in four rounds while conceding only once.
