Bayern Enjoying Red Hot Start

Advancing no further than the semifinals in the six seasons since winning their last Champions League title, including an early Round of 16 exit last season, Bayern have stormed out of the gate this time around.

They’ve posted lopsided victories over both the Spurs and Crvena Zvezda to seize the early lead on the Group B table.

The Bavarians have been red-hot since opening the current season with a disappointing 2-0 loss rival Borussia Dortmund in the DFL Supercup, compiling a 7-2-0 win-draw-loss record across all competitions, while outscoring opponents by a wide 32-9 margin.

Lewandowski & Gnabry Filling the Net

Robert Lewandowski has scored 13 total goals over eight combined outings in UCL and Bundesliga, and has emerged as a +500 to be the top goalscorer in this season’s Champions League.

Serge Gnabry currently shares the early lead in UCL goalscoring after potting four markers including the match winner in Bayern’s victory over the Spurs, and now sits second to Lewandowski as a +600 bet.

But while the Bavarians look to be well on their way to a berth in Knockout Stage for a 12th straight year, they must eventually face the other European powerhouses vying for the Champions League crown.

Is City Still the Club to Beat?

Currently pegged as strong +300 favorites to win this season’s Champions League, Manchester City are also off to a fast start, opening their Group C schedule with a pair of clean sheet victories. The Citizens have a lot to prove this season after their stunning ouster by the Spurs in last spring’s quarter-finals.

Apart from a letdown in a 3-2 loss to recently promoted Norwich City in Premier League action, City have been on a roll, winning eight of 10 across all competitions, and outscoring opponents by a massive 19-1 margin during a current five-match win streak.

City continued to roll with a 2-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in Group C action despite being without Kevin De Bruyne, who is sidelined with a groin injury.

However, Bayern has kept pace with the Citizens in recent head-to-head meetings, going 3-0-3 in six UCL meetings since 2011.

Barca, Tottenham Far From Locks to Advance

Barcelona has endured hard luck in UCL play since last raising the hardware, advancing beyond the quarter-finals just once. The defending La Liga champions have also struggled with inconsistency in the early going this season, posting wins in just two of six overall outing before embarking on a three-match win streak, capped by narrow 2-1 comeback win over Inter Milan in a Group F clash this week.

As for Spurs, with just two wins in nine matches across all competitions, Tottenham have more to worry about than just the Champions League.

A middling 3-2-2 start currently leaves them mired below the line in sixth place on the Premier League table.

And with their next Champions League matches coming against a suddenly surging Crvena Zvezda squad that currently controls second place on the Group B table, the Spurs must first prove they can pay out as a -400 bet to advance out of the group stage before thinking about a return to the Champions League final.

Pick: Bayern Munich to win 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League (+650)
