  • Currently, the favorites are Bayern Munich with a moneyline of -132

This weekend on Bundesliga Matchday 7 we are going to be treated with what is hopefully an energetic match between the Bundesliga’s top two sides, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. The rivalry known as Der Klassiker has been played 127 times and has captivated Germany since the late 1990s. While Bayern are the favorites, both sides have impressive records early in the season and are full of goals.

Aside from a 4-1 humbling to Hoffenheim in the second domestic game of the season, Bayern Munich are cruising. The loss of Thiago and Coutinho has not phased them at all. Additionally, acquiring the services of Leroy Sane from Manchester City has bolstered their ferocious attack. Dortmund on the other hand, are extremely young and will have their growing pains this year. Nonetheless, with Erling Haaland up top, expect anything from them on Saturday.

Five Years of Bayern Munich Dominance in Der Klassiker

Bayern could win their ninth consecutive Bundesliga title this summer. It seems as though every year, we the fans, believe it will be an exciting year for Borussia Dortmund. When the two sides meet, we hope for a Dortmund victory. However, since 2015 the sides have played 19 times, and the results are not in favor of the yellow and black.

In fact, Bayern have won 63-percent of the matchups with another 15-percent of the matches ending in draws. More recently, Bayern Munich have taken these games with ease, winning by five and six goals two seasons ago, and four just last fall. Hans-Dieter Flick’s side is on fire, winning their last five by an average margin of three goals.

Granted, Dortmund is on good form as well but their challenge is epically tasking. The former Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski somehow has ten goals already and will be licking his lips come Saturday.

Can Dortmund’s Youth Talent Make a Statement?

The odds are sort of stacked up against them in this fixture, but Dortmund have a legitimate shot if their tactics are smart. Let us break down Dortmund’s main strength, their goal-scoring ability. Erling Haaland is the main threat for Bayern Munich but Jadon Sancho, if he plays, and Gio Reyna are also key contributors. Bayern have been giving up the casual goal here and there, which is why Dortmund need to go out and hit them in the face.

Despite having six clean sheets in seven games, they cannot go in relying on their defense to contain Bayern, because they will lose, badly. Push the wing-backs high up the pitch, let Meunier create from his position on the right and demand your forwards to come back and defend. If Favre can pull that off as a manager, he will give his side a fighting chance against Bayern Munich, but it is not going to be easy.

This is a team full of new blood with players like Jude Bellingham that might be able to provide a different edge in this match. Without Leon Goretzka and Alphonso Davies, it might be just enough for Dortmund to pull off a result against Bayern.

Best Bet

In my opinion, the best bet for this match is the spread on Bayern Munich at -1 (+130). Do not get anything confused, Dortmund are a very exciting team; but that is all they are right now. Bayern are experienced, on form and have a world-class player at essentially every single position, not just someone with potential.

They have been pouring in goals and with a shuffled Dortmund defense as Zagadou and Hummels sit out to injury, this one could get ugly. Furthermore, history is on the side of Bayern Munich winning by a few goals and at +130, this bet is too hard to pass on.

My Pick: Bayern Munich -1 (+130)
