One of the best rivalries in the MLS takes center stage on Wednesday evening as the LA Galaxy and LAFC lock horns in what’s known as El Trafico. This fixture will actually head to Pasadena and take place at the Rose Bowl, which is typically a venue for college football. The kick-off is scheduled for 10:30 PM ET.

This is the second meeting between the two sides in Major League Soccer action in 2023, with LAFC winning a thriller in April by a score of 3-2. In May, however, the Galaxy knocked their city foes out of the US Open Cup with a convincing 2-0 victory with LAFC fiedling a rotated lineup due to CCL commitments.

LA Galaxy vs LAFC Odds

Matchup Moneyline
LA Galaxy +230
LAFC +100
Draw +275

LAFC, the current MLS Cup odds frontrunners and reigning champions are favorites at +100 for an implied win probability of 50%. The Galaxy comes back at +230 and has a 30% chance of coming out victorious. A draw is priced at +275 but it’s important to note they haven’t settled for a point apiece since April of 2021, a span of six games.

LA Galaxy vs LAFC Preview

The 23′ campaign has been incredibly disappointing for the Galaxy thus far. They’re currently second-last in the Western Conference, grabbing a mere 16 points from 19 games for an overall record of 3-9-7. While their backline is nothing to write home about with 31 goals conceded, Greg Vanney’s men have netted just 18 times.

On a more positive note, Los Angeles hasn’t lost since late May, beating Real Salt Lake and then drawing their last four matches. On Saturday, the Galaxy tied San Jose 2-2 in a goal-filled thriller. Raheem Edwards and Preston Judd produced the goods for the visitors. Goals tend to come in bunches when they play LAFC as well, scoring at least twice in six consecutive meetings.

LAFC is certainly living up to expectations after lifting the MLS Cup last year. Steve Cherundolo’s side is trailing St. Louis City by just three points in the West with a game in hand. Although the attack isn’t exactly thriving, this is just a very solid club on both ends of the pitch, allowing only 21 goals while scoring 28.

However, the Black and Gold are in a bit of a rut at the moment. They’ve tasted defeat in two straight, losing to Vancouver before FC Dallas beat them 2-0 over the weekend. Los Angeles had a plethora of chances too, registering 15 attempts in total and controlling 63% of the ball. Unfortunately, it didn’t translate into a positive result. Despite the Galaxy’s poor season, LAFC cannot take them lightly because Vanney’s group usually turns up in El Trafico.

LA Galaxy vs LAFC Prediction

Despite a massive 16 points separating these two clubs in the standings, I expect it to be competitive and full of goals. I’m liking the value of a draw in the LA Galaxy vs LAFC odds and even the over 3.5 goals because four of the previous five meetings comfortably hit. LAFC isn’t convincing right now and the Galaxy are the kings of snatching a point in recent weeks.

LA Galaxy vs LAFC Picks: Draw (+275), Over 3.5 Goals (+150)
