Pick 1: Club América vs Monterrey

Joint leaders Club América will be hoping to bounce back after last week’s 4-1 away defeat to Querétaro – a result that allowed Cruz Azul and Leon to close the gap. To have conceded four goals will be a concern in itself, but of equal concern will be that they have only managed a single clean sheet in their last six games. They have a good recent record against Monterrey though – unbeaten against them in their last two – and have some good home form in their favor. They’ll look at this game as an ideal opportunity to get back on track.

With the season still in its early stages, Monterrey has a 1-3-1 record, with last weekend’s clash with Necaxa being one of their three draws, but it’s a team that’s looked potent in attack despite their relatively lowly 11th place. In the draw with Necaxa, they had 19 shots and they have scored eight times in their last six, but this one will be a massive ask as they haven’t won in their last eight visits to Club América. They’ve also not won in their last seven away games.

So, while it’s hard to see Monterrey getting the win, there is value here in the draw, especially as they are currently the league’s draw experts. With Club América still reeling from last week’s defeat, the +250 for the tie is tempting.

Pick: Club América and Monterrey to draw (+250)

Three teams are tied at the top of the Liga MX Guardianes table on ten points after Club America’s surprise 4-1 away defeat by Querétaro last weekend

Pick 2: FC Juárez vs León

It’s 13th versus joint-top in Juarez’s Estadio Olimpico, with the visitors looking to keep the pressure on Club América and Cruz Azul. With three wins in their first five games, Leon is in good early-season form, with their well-organized defense conceding just three times so far, and last time out they beat Tijuana 2-1 at home. To be averaging two points per game has got their season off to a flier and confidence is high.

Juarez’s record of won one, drawn two and lost two represents a disappointing start to the campaign, and they join a group of teams – from 12th down to 16th – on five points. Last time out they lost 3-2 away to Cruz Azul, making it two losses on the bounce, and so will be keen here to avoid another – one that would likely see them end up in the bottom three.

Leon has a good record in this fixture and have won the last three – the most recent being a pre-season friendly that they won 4-0 – so it’s hard to see Juarez getting anything from this game. Even at -120, there’s value in the away win.

Pick: León to win (-120)

Pick 3: Toluca vs Guadalajara

Toluca is fifth in the table but only a single point off the lead, so have made a solid start to the campaign, while Guadalajara is mid-table with a 2-1-2 record. Last time out, Toluca beat Tigres UANL 3-2 at home, to continue their run of high-scoring matches, but ten goals scored and ten conceded tells the story of a team that’s free-scoring but which needs to defend better to sustain a challenge at the top of the table. Worth noting here though is that they have not beaten Guadalajara in their previous seven league matches.

The visitors come into this off the back of a 2-1 home win over Atlético San Luis and, unlike Toluca, have been involved in tight, low-scoring games so far, with just four goals scored and four conceded. Interestingly, Guadalajara has not been beaten by Toluca in their last three trips to La Bombonera, and partly for this reason, and also because of their tight defense, I see value here in the away win.

Pick: Guadalajara to win (+185)
