Roma Impacted by Streaky Play, Sporadic Offense

Overall, it has been a streaky campaign for the Giallorossi. The club’s struggles to generate offense have contributed to lengthy winless streaks that have impacted their showing, both in UEL action and in Serie A. After tallying 14 total goals over their first five matches, Roma shooters took a step back, potting just four total goals during a subsequent 1-4-1 win-draw-loss run across all competitions that featured draws with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Wolfsberger AC in group stage action.

And while the club quickly turned things around in league play, posting three straight wins, their Europa League struggles continued with a 2-1 loss in a rematch with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Work Remains to Claim a Knockout Stage Berth

Roma remains far from assured of a third trip to the knockout stage in as many Europa League appearances. A loss to Wolfsberger when they meet at Stadio Olimpico on December 12, combined with a victory by Istanbul Basaksehir in their group stage finale against Borussia MG could potentially hand the Giallorossi their first early exit from Europa League since their ouster in the play-off round back in 2011.

Despite sporting their strongest UEL championship odds of the season, Roma will face a tough test to challenge the favorites atop the Europa League championship odds as the knockout stage progresses

The club sits perched as massive -650 favorites to knock off Wolfsberger in their upcoming contest. But despite sporting their strongest UEL championship odds of the season, Roma will face a tough test to challenge the favorites atop the Europa League championship odds as the knockout stage progresses.

Arsenal, Man U Top Odds Despite Uneven Play

With just one match remaining in the group stage, Arsenal FC remains deadlocked with Premier League rival Manchester United as +550 co-favorites, just ahead of five-time UEL champions Sevilla FC at +700. The Gunners have maintained their perch despite being mired in a seven-match winless streak across all competitions that has featured a draw and a loss in group stage action, as well as dumping the club into ninth place on the Premier League table, and ultimately costing head coach Unai Emery his job.

The Red Devils have also been far from a reliable wager in recent outings. While the club is already assured of a berth in the knockout stage, they continued the inconsistent play that has marked their season with a 2-1 loss to Astana in UEL action earlier this week.

Manchester United have compiled a middling 9-6-6 record across all competitions, and have regularly wilted in the face of stiff competition. The club has posted losses in league play to Bournemouth, West Ham, and Crystal Palace, and were far from dominant in narrow one-goal wins over Partizan and Astana during the group stage .

Unbeaten Sevilla Offering Enormous Value

That leaves the door wide open for Sevilla to march to their fourth Europa League title in seven years. The Spanish side continued their recent strong play with a 2-0 win over Qarabag in group stage play this week, extending their current overall undefeated streak to nine matches.

Sporting a perfect 5-0-0 record in the group stage, Sevilla is poised to claim the top seed in the knockout stage, providing them with a crucial advantage over both Roma and their English rivals. In addition, Sevilla sports a spectacular 24-1-0 record in their past 25 UEL matches on home turf, and until one of their key rivals shows signs of returning to consistent form, the SEV must be considered as the side to beat in this year’s competition.

Pick: Sevilla (+700)
