Australian Open Picks

Here are our top three picks for the Women’s Singles today.

Anhelina Kalinina vs Petra Kvitova Picks

It’s safe to say Kalinina had her breakout year in 2022. The 25-year old managed quite a few deep runs in tournaments over the year, and ended 2022 winning The Open BLS de Limoges.

Kvitova is now stranger to the bright lights of a Grand Slam tournament. Kvitova, a former Australian Open finalist will be looking to make a deep run once again, and is the favorite to move on to the third round.

Both players breezed through their first matches to set this up. The two have never faced each other before, but we’re supposed to go head-to-head at the 2022 US Open. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen due to Kalinina withdrawing.

Kvitova is always hard to defend against as she relies heavy on her serve and groundstrokes. As a leftie, she always has a bit of an edge. Despite the level Kalinina is playing at, Kvitova’s experience might be what takes her to the next round.

Best Bet: Kvitova 2-0 (+111)

Emma Raducanu vs Coco Gauff Picks

This might be the highest anticipated match of the day. It’s quite the matchup for this early in a tournament. But the two haven’t actually played each other before. It’s the next generation going up against one another.

Both players are coming off strong, straight set wins over their first round opponents.

Raducanu actually suffered a slight injury just earlier this month in Auckland, and naturally there were many conversations about whether or not this will affect her run in Australia. So far, so good, and she looks to be at 100 percent.

Regardless of the winner here, it’ll be one to watch, and has all the makings of a match that will go the distance.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 (+125)

Karolina Muchova vs [13] Danielle Collins Picks

2022 runner up Collins will look to have another deep run in the tournament this year. As the 13th seed in this year’s tournament, she has high hopes on having back-to-back final appearances. Unfortunately, her 2023 start wasn’t as strong as she’d hoped, as she suffered a first-round loss in Adelaide.

She continued to struggle in her opening round match of the Grand Slam, where it took her three sets to win the first match.

Muchova didn’t have much of a 2022 season to talk about, as her deepest run in a Grand Slam was the third round of Roland Garros. But her opening match in Australian was a simple one for the Czech.

Much like the other matches spoken about, these two have never faced each other either. Collins will be coming in with the experience edge, but Muchova does have experience at this Slam.

This will be a match that goes back and forth, with a ton of rallies, as both players get creative on the court, but are also great defenders. But given the experience and overall play, look at Collins to move forward.

Best Bet: Collins 2-0 (+126)
