The 10 Weirdest Super Bowl 55 Props You Can Actually Bet

The Super Bowl is the pinnacle of the sports betting calendar. Not only does the game attract a lot of big bets, but there are thousands of unique betting opportunities made available by sportsbooks. Your traditional player, team, and game props all have expanded offerings, and then there are the “Super Bowl props”.

We’ve all become very familiar with the recurring props around the length of the anthem, coin toss, halftime show, and Gatorade bath. I’m willing to bet you’re not nearly as familiar with the props you’ll find below. I’ve gathered what I believe to be the weirdest Super Bowl 55 props available – some are weird from a football fan’s perspective, while others are just simply weird.

1) Amanda Gorman’s Poem Props

Super Bowl 55 is going to be very unique. For one, we will be treated to another one of Amanda Gorman’s poems before the game, as we honor three pandemic heroes. Gorman’s brilliance hit the national spotlight during Joe Biden’s inauguration, when she recited her poem “The Hill We Climb”.

Because she is now reciting a poem at the Super Bowl, the place where everything is turned into a betting opportunity, you can, of course, bet on her poem! Along with the obvious prop of how long will it take, you can also bet on what word will be said first and which of the honorary captains she will mention first.

With only three options, I’m certainly not a fan of betting this prop. But it’s high on the list for being weird.

2) Will Tom Brady Attempt to High-Five an Official?

Remember when Tom Brady tried to high-five the referee after the Buccaneers extended their lead over the Saints late in the NFL Divisional Round? Well, you can bet on him trying it again in the Super Bowl.

The “YES” is going off at +650 odds in this one, with the “NO” heavily juiced at -1400. There are much better lottery tickets to purchase if that’s what you’re looking for.

3) Fat-Man Touchdown

For the record, I am simply using DraftKing’s terminology in this headline. When I came across this prop category, I truly thought we were going to be given a line on the heaviest player to score a touchdown, allowing bettors to choose over or under.

But the sportsbook has gone a different direction with this one.

Funny enough, the Chiefs have had an offensive lineman catch a touchdown for them this season. Offensive tackle Eric Fisher hauled in a two-yard score in Week 3 against the Ravens. However, Fisher suffered an Achilles injury in the AFC Championship and has been ruled out of the Super Bowl.

4) Who Will Throw the First Touchdown of the Game?

Remember I said some of these may only be weird to football fans? This is one of them.

At first glance, this looks like a perfectly normal prop. You’d assume the sportsbook would let you pick between Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady. But BetMGM has taken this much, much further, allowing you to bet on basically any player on each roster.

Here are the handful of players with the worst odds, all listed at +50000:

• Tanner Hudson (TE, Bucs)
• Ricky Seals-Jones (TE, Chiefs)
• Nick Keizer (TE, Chiefs)
• Antony Auclair (TE, Bucs)

In games where Mahomes and Brady started and finished the game, no other player on their respective rosters has thrown a touchdown pass. Travis Kelce attempted two passes this season, completing one of them for four yards, and Sammy Watkins attempted one.

5) Sarah Thomas Props

Another reason Super Bowl 55 will be unique is it features the game’s first female official, Sarah Thomas. As I said before, sportsbooks want to ensure their players have the ability to bet on every aspect of the Super Bowl. This means Sarah Thomas props!

While there are a few distasteful and inappropriate props at some books that I don’t want to give any time to, there are some fun ones, including how Thomas will wear her hair. The options are either “Down in a ponytail” (-250) or “Up in her hat” (+175).

6) Missed Field Goal Props

We’ve all come to know the “Doink” special at this point, allowing bettors to wager on any field goal or extra point to hit an upright or the crossbar. But sportsbooks are giving you even more field goal props to play with in Super Bowl 55.

To be clear, a kick that hits the left upright and bounces out would cash “Wide Left”, while a blocked kick or a kick that bounces off the crossbar and out would cash “Short”.

If you’re betting this, you’re either very sharp or a degenerate. There’s no in between.

7) Chain Gang Props

If you’re unfamiliar with the “chain gang”, it’s the people who hold the down markers on the sidelines all game. If you didn’t know that, you surely didn’t know you could also bet on how many times they will come onto the field for a measurement.

This is a real life prop that people have the ability to put their hard-earned money on.

The line is set at 1.5 times, with the over listed at +135 and the under at -175. Can you imagine the thrill of seeing the referee call for the chain gang a second time when you’ve got the over? Can you also imagine the rage in seeing the referee signal first down on what looks to be a ball-carrier coming up just short of the sticks?

8) COVID Props

While I am very excited for more Super Bowls that feature Amanda Gorman and/or Sarah Thomas, or any other positive first, I truly hope this is the last Super Bowl we ever have where there are COVID-related props. Here are a few of the offerings that have come up due to the difficult circumstances presented by the pandemic:

• Odds on Andy Reid’s mask design (Chiefs branded is the heavy favorite at -1500)
• Number of people in commercials shown wearing masks (line is set at 2.5 with the over listed at -400)
• What will be said first: “Pandemic” or “COVID”?

9) Andy Reid and Cheeseburgers

There’s no questioning Andy Reid’s love for a good cheeseburger. After Kansas City won the AFC Championship last year, he said he celebrated by, “[having] a cheeseburger and [going] to bed.”

He followed that up by saying he was going to, “get the biggest cheeseburger you’ve ever seen” after winning Super Bowl 54. Although I can’t seem to find any video evidence of it, I’m sure it was a massive cheeseburger.

Reid has already come out and said he’d go with a double cheeseburger to celebrate his second Super Bowl.

If you do like the Chiefs to win on Sunday, Kansas City is currently listed as 3-point favorites, you might want to look into this prop: Will Andy Reid say “burger”? The “NO” is listed at -1300 odds, while you can get +550 on “YES”.

10) What Time Will the Game End?

This might be the weirdest one of them all. This prop has nothing to do with any player, team, or storyline from this game. It is the most unexciting, yet very weird prop.

There are so many factors that could play into this prop. What if there’s a serious injury? How many times will we see referee stoppages (for the chain gang, of course)? What if either team relies heavily on the ground game?

Also, who’s betting the under on this one?! Imagine spending the fourth quarter of a close game looking at your watch, hoping the game just wraps up quickly?
