It’s a Metropolitan Division tilt as the first-place New York Rangers visit the fifth-place Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, January 27th. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm EST at Nationwide Arena. The Rangers are listed as comfortable -225 road favorites in the Thursday Rangers vs Blue Jackets NHL odds.

Let’s take a look at the Rangers vs Blue Jackets odds along with best bets for this contest.

Rangers vs Blue Jackets Odds

Team Puck Line Total Moneyline
New York Rangers -1.5 (+114) O 6.5 (-103) -225
Columbus Blue Jackets +1.5 (-137) U 6.5 (-120) +180

Rangers Favored in Tuesday NHL Odds

The Blue Jackets will be playing on back-to-back nights, which also likely plays into the fact the rested Rangers are pretty heavy -225 moneyline favorites in the Rangers vs Blue Jackets odds on Thursday.

The Rangers have won five out of six games in the new year when they’ve been made the betting favorites. They’re coming off a 3-2 victory over the Kings where defenseman Adam Fox scored the shootout winner with a beautiful move that you’re not accustomed to seeing most blueliners make.

The reigning Norris Trophy winner is still trailing Avalanche defenseman, Cale Makar, in the Norris Trophy odds, but is a good value bet considering he is leading all defensemen in scoring with 46 points and plays on a first-place team.

Blue Jackets Bad Bet on Home Ice in January

The Blue Jackets are a very pedestrian 3-7 in the month of January heading into Wednesday night’s game against the Flames. Perhaps most concerning are their struggles on home ice, where they are just 1-5 at Nationwide Arena since the calendar flipped to 2022.

They’ve managed just five goals in their last three losses at home, but are getting some help on the back end as defenseman Adam Boqvist is coming out of Covid-19 protocol.

Surprisingly, Boqvist leads all Columbus rearguards in goals with seven and is in sixth place on the whole team in that category so the Blue Jackets will be looking for some help from him to get the offense going.

Kreider Moving up in Odds to Win Rocket Richard Trophy

One of the biggest surprises in the NHL through the first half of the season has been the goal scoring prowess of Rangers forward Chris Kreider, who leads the league with 30 goals. It’s the first time he’s ever scored 30 or more in a season, and he’s still got 39 games to go!

Kreider was nowhere to be found in the Rocket Richard Trophy odds when we posted our last update on December 21st. Since that time he has 12 goals in 13 games, and most oddsmakers now have him as the fourth betting favorite behind Alexander Ovechkin, Auston Matthews, and Leon Draisaitl.

He’ll be looking forward to seeing the Blue Jackets as well as he has already scored four goals in their two meetings so far this season.

Rangers vs Blue Jackets Pick and Prediction

Led by Igor Shesterkin, who is right on Jack Campbell’s heels in the Vezina Trophy odds, the Rangers are the second-best team in the NHL at keeping pucks out of their net. The Rangers netminder leads the league in save percentage and is second in goals against average.

Combine the Rangers solid defensive play with the Blue Jackets goal scoring struggles, and the under looks like a safe play. However, a better value play might be the Rangers on the puck line where you’ll get the best return on your bet.

The Rangers have beaten the Blue Jackets by two or more goals in each of their last three meetings, and with the teams headed in opposite directions, New York is a good bet to do it again. Take the Rangers on the puck line at +114 in the New York Rangers vs Columbus Blue Jackets odds at Barstool Sportsbook.

Pick: New York Rangers -1.5 (+114) at Barstool Sportsbook
