Two Most Powerful Teams

As the nominees from the two most powerful confederations of Europe and South America, Chelsea and Palmeiras did not enter until the semifinal stage.

At Barstool Sportsbook, Chelsea is a wide favorite for a win over 90 minutes at -155.

Palmeiras, moreover, is priced at +440 with the draw at +290.

These finals have often undoubtedly been tight low-scoring affairs and the price for the draw over 90 minutes looks attractive.

Three of the last four finals were won by 1-0 scorelines.

However, a correct score prop offer of +475 for Chelsea to triumph 1-0 – in the first meeting of these clubs – looks even more compelling.

Significantly, three of the last four finals were won by 1-0 scorelines.

Furthermore, both of Chelsea’s leading goal-getters are well priced to score.

Firstly, Romelu Lukaku has nine goals this season and is priced at +410. Secondly, Jorginho – who also has nine goals – is at +900.

It was Lukaku who, moreover, scored the 32nd minute winner against Al Hilal in the last-four tie.

However, it was a stuttering performance from Chelsea which scraped through.

The final takes place at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi with kick-off at 11:30 am ET.

Chelsea Presently Third In EPL

In England’s Premier League, Chelsea currently sits in third place.

However, its recent form has been patchy. There have been five draws in the last eight EPL games with one defeat and only two wins.

That has certainly left the team’s title hopes in tatters as it sits markedly 13 points behind leaders Manchester City – although only one point adrift of second-placed Liverpool.

It has especially struggled for goals lately given the expensive values of its leading forwards.

Indeed, it has scored just 10 times in that recent inconsistent eight-match run.

It did, however, give itself a lift with a 2-0 win at home against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in its most recent EPL outing on January 23.

Meanwhile, it scored a 2-1 win against Plymouth Argyle of League One at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup fifth round in its most recent game – before heading for the Middle East.

There was, significantly, a 1-0 win for Chelsea over EPL rivals Manchester City in the Champions League final last May – earning it a place in the Club World Cup.

Palmeiras, meanwhile, is currently competing in Brazil’s Campeonato Paulista – the state championship of the Sao Paolo region.

That is following its third-place finish in the national Serie A league competition which was completed in early December.

Palmeiras Triumphed Over Rivals Flamengo

Previously, Palmeiras defeated fellow Brazilian side Flamengo 2-1 in the final of the Copa Libertadores last November to secure its opportunity in the Club World Cup.

Subsequently, in its semifinal game in Abu Dhabi, it claimed its 2-0 win against Al Ahly with goals from Raphael Viega and Dudu.

It was also a nervy game until Palmeiras stepped up their attacking work rate and took full command in the second half.

Its victory avenged a semifinal defeat by Al Ahly in last year’s Club World Cup – with the Egyptians then winning 3-2 in a penalty shootout.

Currently, Palmeiras is undefeated in its last 10 games across four competitions since November 27.

This is Palmeiras’ first final in the competition.

Meanwhile, Chelsea was defeated once before in the Club World Cup final of 2012 when it went down 1-0 against Corinthians of Brazil.

This, though, is Palmeiras’ first final in the competition.

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was the hero for Chelsea in the semifinal with two important second-half saves.

Boss Thomas Tuchel – who has been self isolating in England recently but may be allowed to fly in –  however, may choose to select first-choice Edouard Mendy after he joined the Chelsea squad fresh from his triumph with Senegal in the African Cup of Nations.

And, to sum, up, this will be a tight match – with Chelsea likely to edge it narrowly over 90 minutes or after extra time.

Pick: Chelsea to win 1-0 (+475)
