In just under an hour and a half, 27th seed, Collins defeated Alize Cornet of France 7-5, 6-1, to earn her spot in her second career Grand Slam semifinal.
In her quarterfinal win, Collins recorded 28 winners to her opponent’s 11, and actually had 12 more unforced errors. But she managed to only drop her serve once, and win 90 percent of points behind her first serve.

After a tight first set, the American was able to come out to a 4-0 start to lead the second. Cornet was able to win a game, at 5-1, but Collins proved to be to much for the Frenchwoman, and was able to close out the match.
Collins is one of two Americans left in the tournament, joining Madison Keys.
If Collins wins this match, and has a finals appearance here in Melbourne, there’s a slight chance she could make her Top 10 debut in the WTA rankings.
Swiatek Defeats Kaia Kanepi
It took three hours in the Melbourne heat, but 20-year old Swiatek defeated 36-year old Kaia Kanepi 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-3, to earn a spot in the semifinals.
Swiatek found herself down a set, where she still managed to save nine set points. But the Pole managed to rally back in a tight second set, and secure the win in the third.
Swiatek, who has been fairly consistent on her serves, recorded 12 double faults against Kanepi. But she still managed to land 63 percent of her first serves, and follow it up with a 68 win percentage behind that first serve. The double faults will have to be something Swiatek minimizes against Collins.
Out of the four players left, Swiatek is the only player who is in the Aussie Open semifinals for the first time. But the young superstar has more than her fair share of Grand Slam experience at just 20-years old.
Collins vs Swiatek Head-to-Head
This is just the second between between the American and Pole. The two played each other once before in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Adelaide 500. Swiatek ended up winning the match after Collins retired from the match at 6-2, 3-0.

Collins vs Swiatak Best Bet
Yes, the two have played each other before, but don’t take that match into consideration. Collins withdrew due to back pain in the January match, and underwent surgery for endometriosis in April. Since coming back from that surgery, Collins has been a different player.
Swiatek has been vocal about how tired she is after two long, three-set matches in the heat. The 20-year old has had a bit more competition from the start than other tournaments. And at this point of any tournament, fatigue is a legitimate factor to take into consideration.
Between fatigue and serving, Swiatek might have her work cut out for her against Collins. If this match shows that it’s going to go the distance, the edge is with Collins.
