Public Betting Heavy of Chiefs to Cover

While the Chiefs opened as three-point favorites, the line went up to four when Kansas City got heavy early action. Though the public continues to put most of its money down on the Chiefs, the spread is back to the original three points.

The Chiefs are rolling and the public like hot teams. Kansas City routed the Las Vegas Raiders 48-9 last week.

Patrick Mahomes threw two touchdown passes and Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for two scores. Meanwhile, the Chiefs forced the Raiders into five turnovers.

The Chargers downed the New York Giants 37-21 at home, building a 37-7 lead then cruised for their first back-to-back victories since October. Justin Herbert threw three touchdown passes to lead Los Angeles and Dustin Hopkins kicked three field goals.

Yet the consecutive wins haven’t moved the betting needle for the Chargers.

Most of the Money Going on the Over

Seemingly everyone placing a total wager on this game is hitting the Over at 52.5 points after the lines opened at 48.5. Of the over/under betting handles 83% is on the Over as well as 82% of the total bets.

The matchup of Mahomes against Herbert certainly is a driving force behind the over action. Herbert’s 3,822 passing yards are fourth in the NFL and Mahomes is right behind him with 3,642.

The teams also combined for 54 points in their first meeting. Herbert threw four touchdowns in that game and Mahomes tossed three, which should make for spiriting Chiefs vs Chargers prop bets.

The total has been rising all week, going to 50.5 on Monday, 52 on Wednesday and then 52.5 on Thursday.

Money on Chiefs to Win

Nearly three-quarters of the moneyline bets are also going on the Chiefs, who are -170 favorites. To be exact, the figures are 71% of the handle and 72% of the overall wagers.

The public clearly isn’t concerned about the Chiefs having to pack their bags for this one.

The ML opened with the Chiefs at -164 and the Chargers at +138
