No Betting Value With Flyers in Philadelphia

Both the Blackhawks and the Flyers sit well outside the playoff picture in their respective conferences. This game may be more of an audition for a lot of players as we move closer to the NHL trade deadline on March 21st.

It’s somewhat surprising that public money is backing the Flyers considering their porous performance on home ice this year. This game will be the 7th of an eight game homestand for Philly during which they’ve gone 1-4-1. They gave up a 3rd period lead and were defeated 5-4 by Minnesota in their last contest on Thursday.

Jonas Brodin scored the game winner for the Wild handing the Flyers their 21st loss in their last 24 games! Overall, they have won just 9 of 28 games at home this season. In fact, Philadelphia has the worst record in the entire NHL since the calendar flipped to 2022.

Worst NHL Records 2021/22 Season

Team Record Points Points Percentage
32. Philadelphia Flyers 3-16-4 10 .217
31. New Jersey Devils 7-15-0 14 .318
30. Seattle Kraken 7-16-1 15 .313
29. Buffalo Sabres 7-13-3 17 .370

*As of Friday, March 4 at 6:00 pm EST

While the Blackhawks have had a dismal season as well and have only six more points than the Flyers this season, they are a much more respectable 21st in the NHL standings in the new year.

Blackhawks Great Road Betting Value

Chicago had much higher expectations this campaign after the return of Jonathan Toews and off-season acquisitions of Marc-Andre Fleury and Seth Jones, but it just hasn’t come together for them. They started the season with no wins in October, going 0-7-2 and just haven’t been able to make up that ground.

However, since October, the Blackhawks have been competitive, with a 20-20-6 record. One of the more eye raising stats is their stellar road record of late against the East. Since the start of December, they’re 5-2 on the road against Eastern Conference opponents, most of which had much better home records than the Flyers.

Blackhawks Pick-Up Play With Plans to Rebuild

The Chicago Blackhawks new General Manager, Kyle Davidson, met with his key veterans after taking over to make sure they were aware of his plan to rebuild the team as the trade deadline gets nearer.

Patrick Kane, Toews and Co. seemed to respect his honesty and performed admirably in Davidson’s first game since being officially named GM, defeating the Oilers 4-3 in overtime. Alex DeBrincat scored the game winner and finds himself 8th in the Rocket Richard Trophy odds, as he became the 7th NHL player to hit the 30 goal mark this year.

On the flip side, one reason why the Flyers might be the best pick to beat the Blackhawks is because they have owned Chicago at home. The Blackhawks are just 1-16 in the last 17 meetings in Philadelphia.

Blackhawks vs Flyers Prediction & Pick

When studying the best betting pick for this game, one of the only factors that points to a Flyers victory is their dominance over the Blackhawks lately as seen in the table above, especially when they’re on home ice. But they haven’t played each other in over two years.

All other factors point to a Blackhawks victory. Chicago has been playing much better then Philadelphia of late, the Flyers have been atrocious at the Wells Fargo Center, and the Flyers have many more key injuries with Sean Couturier and Ryan Ellis out for the rest of the year, just to name a few.

I think the Blackhawks buck the head-to-head trend between these two and prove good value for a win as a road underdog on Saturday afternoon against the Flyers. Take the Blackhawks on the moneyline at +102 at Barstool Sportsbook.

Pick: Chicago Blackhawks Moneyline (+102)
